THE PROJECT

We are a collective of friends raising funds to help animals and care for a pocket of land in a quiet valley of the Pyrenees. We named this project Serendipia de Arrebol, meaning "the serendipity of the sunset glow," which to us captures small moments of connection found when living in harmony with the mountains.

Our focus is building a sanctuary to rescue animals, by giving them a space where we can learn more about them and support them as they grow old. Alongside the care for animals, we hope to create a community centre - a home for art workshops and retreats that invite all humans to reconnect with the land, themselves, and other beings. We would like to create an intentional and inclusive space for queer and creative individuals like ourselves, and animals, to find quiet and feel part of something kind. In this space, every life is valued for who they are, not what they can provide.

We are starting mindfully, while still living in alignment with our values and respecting the land. We will live off-grid with a full focus on sustainability and gradual development of a permaculture food forest.

All profit from the services we provide. will be directly returned to the animal sanctuary, so we can give as many animals the love and care they long for. :)

OUR ETHICS

COMMUNITY

Community is the heartbeat of this project. We believe in building a space where humans, animals, and nature live in a shared rhythm of care. We all deserve a place and a life on this earth, and we advocate for those who cannot do so for themselves.

We are a group of friends whose ethics align in these values, and we love sharing that with the people who visit us. Our hope is to grow old together on this land and for this project to continue living on as a safe place and a sanctuary for all beings, long after we are gone.

Serendipia de Arrebol is a safe place, a sanctuary for all beings. :)

ABOUT US

image_2026-05-12_075258385.png

SUSTAINABILITY

Deeply rooted within all of us is a love for the earth. We want everything we do here to add to her beauty rather than take away from it. This means being mindful of every step we take.

Sustainability, for us, means making ethical decisions in every part of our lives. This includes how we manage waste, how we build our systems, and how we manage our time.

We also value a "sustainable workload" to ensure that our energy remains high and no one gets burned out.

Renew, restore, revive, rebuild, regrow, reform; regenerate.

We are always learning, so if you have suggestions on how we can make this place even better, we would love to hear from you. :)

NON-VIOLENCE

Non-violence is the foundation of how we interact with the world. It guides our communication, our actions, and our lifestyle.

Communication:
We practice empathy and active listening, ensuring that our space remains safe and respectful for every individual.

Veganism:
Our commitment to non-violence extends to our plates and our daily choices. We live a vegan lifestyle out of compassion for all sentient beings, kindness is a choice we make every single day.

Action:
We strive to meet every situation with a gentle spirit, whether we are working with a rescued animal or having a conversation with a neighbor.

EQUALITY

For us, equality means that every life holds inherent value simply by existing, not for what it can produce or provide. We practice this through complete transparency in how we run this project, make decisions, and use our funds, sharing our whole journey openly with our community.

True equality requires diversity, which we see as the vital spark of Serendipia de Arrebol. Much like a healthy ecosystem depends on a wild variety of organisms to flourish, our collective draws its strength from a rich tapestry of backgrounds, ages, genders, and life experiences. We are dedicated to cultivating a safe, welcoming space where queer and creative folk can find quiet and a genuine sense of belonging.

This commitment naturally extends to how we accommodate different abilities. We approach our daily rhythms and land design with patience, ensuring that both disabled individuals and aging farm rescues can move at their own speed. Whether it is a tree in the forest, a rescue from a farm, or a person on the mountain, every pace is honored and everyone belongs.
